When Less is More: Adding Modern Simplicity to Your Decorating

Minimalism has been a part of the decorating process for decades. Keeping a home simple is often the best way to improve the look and mood of every room. Many people assume that more is better. However, there is a certain challenge that comes along with minimalist decorations. When there are less objects in a room, then the effect of those objects is amplified. A cluttered room is too much for the senses to handle. A beautiful white vase would simply disappear if the walls and tables were filled with strange decorations.

Staying Clean And Simple:
A simple room can create a special mood, while clutter will often create a stressful living space. Clutter overwhelms the senses and creates aesthetic confusion. In most decorating cases, less is much more. A clean and simple living space creates a peaceful environment. It is a good idea to conceal the clutter in your home through the efficient use of closet and cabinet space. A simple home is easier to live in and enjoy.
The Use Of Color:
A minimalist design should also incorporate the colors of the home. Too many strong colors can seem very oppressive. Try using one color in repetition. For instance, white walls and white furniture are easy on the mind. Feel free to use different textures and tones of the same color. This creates a certain amount of variety without being too overwhelming. If you feel the need to use multiple colors, then it is important that you create a certain pattern with those colors. Try to repeat this pattern throughout the home. This will give strength to a multicolored home.

Focus Your Home:
The most fun aspect of a minimalist décor is the use of objects. You can make an entire room revolve around one piece of furniture. For instance, all of the decorations in the living room can be arranged to compliment a chair or couch. You should think of any room as if it were separated into straight lines, both vertically and horizontally. Any room can be organized in a symmetrical way. Minimalism and symmetry help to keep a room focused. Roller blinds can be used to keep the windows clean and organized at all times.

The home decorating process is one of the most exciting aspects of being a home owner. This process is entirely up to you. Keep these simple tips in mind to discover first hand how simplicity can focus and strengthen your own unique decorating ideas.

Living Room Decor Trends That Will Change Your Home

The living room is where we spend most of our time. It is where we sit with friends and family during a get together. The living room is a place to relax and unwind after a stressful day. That is exactly why our living rooms deserve a little in return.

Decorating the living room is a fun way to bring the family together:

Every member of the family can offer their own opinions about how to approach the decorating process. There are also plenty of hot trends going on right now that may lead you in the right direction. 2013 is a new and exciting year for interior design. Themes are always a good idea. Decorating your living room with a specific theme in mind will help to give the room a consistent amount of elegance. This also helps to prevent one area of the room from standing out too much. If one area is too noticeable, then the rest of the room may seem dull or tasteless. Some classic theme ideas include the beach theme, Victorian and even minimalism. Minimalism seems to be a trend this year. The idea that less is more is nothing new. However, minimalism allows certain decorations to stand out. If there is too much stuff in a room, then the decorations may get lost in the clutter. Minimalism is classy and clean.

How you decorate your living room will effect the mood of the room:

There are plenty of ways to make a small room feel larger. For instance, smaller tables create this effect. Transparent furniture is one of the best and most interesting ways to make a room feel larger. Furniture made entirely out of glass or plastic may seem strange, but keep an open mind when decorating your living room. A transparent coffee table is both bold and minimal. That is a combination that is often hard to find in living room furniture.

One theme that has been trending this year is the vintage glam theme.

This is a particularly fun theme that may include lots of gold and crystal. Wallpaper that glistens will really transform the living room. Metal threading can be used to add this effect without over doing it. Decorations must work together to reflect a single idea. That is the goal of a themed living room. Whether you love Hollywood or the beach, choosing a theme is entirely up to you. Have fun with it. You will be surprised with what you can come up with. How to Make your Living Room More Cosy

There’s nothing better in the evening than getting in after work and relaxing in a warm cosy environment.  A cosy room feels like a cuddle and there is no better place to wind down at the end of a hard days work than in a nice cosy living room. The important elements of a cosy room are that is feels soft, gentle and warm.
Lighting
Lighting has a tremendous impact on the cosy-factor of a room. Harsh, bright, white lights can make even the smallest, softest environment feel sterile and unwelcoming. People are opting for bight modern décor more and more these days, there is nothing wrong with this as long as you balance the lighting. This is where lamps come in to their own. Diffuse lighting and well placed lamps will light your room with soft glows rather than harsh flares of light. This will instantly make the room feel more intimate, gentle and cosy.

Colours
Modern homes tend to use a great deal of white and black, which looks fantastic but can really remove any cosy feelings from a room. To make up for this, you can add splashes of warm colours such as reds or maroons. A good way to incorporate these colours into your modern décor is to use rugs, pillow covers, throws or paintings.

Materials
Soft soft soft is the cosy rule! The materials you choose for your living room will also dictate how cosy it feels. As a general rule the softer the material the cosier the room. So if you are a leather sofa kind of person, you can add soft material covered cushions to help cosy up to your seating area. Soft rugs, curtains and cushions also go a long way in the cosy stakes.

Finishing
Empty space in a room tends to look cold and drains any warmth or comfort from the given room. To solve this try adding finishing touches to these spaces such as photos, paintings, vases and lamps. Placing these items around the room will increase the cosy factor and make the room feel very welcoming and warm. If your colour theme is dark, then lighter colour finishing touches will create a contrast that will build a cosy feeling. But be careful not to clash colours, balance of colours and light are the most important factors when creating a cosy room.
